HUNDREDS of children and families throng Ezdan Mall every evening to watch ‘The Little Mermaid Tale’, which is a theatrical adaptation of the famous Danish fairy tale by an Australian production house.
The play, which has become the talk of the town among the youngest audience of Doha, is slated to have its last presentation on Sunday.
One of the most striking features of this musical play is its flawless setting that depicts the mythical and colourful world under the sea named the Aqualine kingdom.
Equally impressive are the elaborate designs of the costumes worn by the actors, the actors’ energetic dance performances with appropriate expressions, light effects as well as its rich humour that makes this musical an instant success even with the adult audience.
“This is our first in-house theatrical production with the script and music customised for the play. Besides, our team has also designed the set and the costumes. In all this is our own original production,” the play’s producer and director Alan Jenner said told Qatar Tribune.
He added,”We are very happy to come to Doha to participate in the Eid Al Fitr festivities and present ‘The Little Mermaid Tale’ to the audience of Doha. The theme of this musical gels very well with the ongoing Eid festivities.”
“With a duration of 40 minutes, this musical is our interpretation of the original story. We changed some of the things to suit the needs of the stage. For example, the little mermaid in our story has pink hair and the characters live in a mythical Aqualine kingdom where there is a celebration which is in progress and as the story unfolds the magical clam opens up and the bubble of joy is spread through the kingdom,” he further said.
The production consists of five lead performers, two dancers in addition to the couple of technicians to give the back stage support to the team.
This is Jenner’s fourth visit to Doha. His team also participated in last year’s Eid celebrations.”We hope to return next Eid with a new production,” Jenner said.
